New Studio Planning

So at the moment my bedroom in my flat is starting to look like a shop as my products are arriving and I have also ordered some of the furniture for my studio. I move into the Studio in February and I can't wait to get my bedroom back and then the JT Makeup Studio will begin.

My courses will show my 7 stages of body painting. These are techniques I have acquired over nearly 18 years of body painting. I use stages 1 - 7 to make my body painting appear like an illusion with texture and structure. The Introductory Body Painting course is over two days and will run at weekends. The next course is more intermediate, based on Clothing and this will also run over two days.

For all the courses we provide products and learning materials plus lunch. The products I use for Body Painting are MUFE, MAC, Kryolan and Paradise. I also use other ingredients to create texture to the paint effects and I will be selling these products in my Studio plus a range of body painting brushes.

The response has been amazing and I am so lucky to be supported by some great people in the makeup industry. I just feel its an industry that is you work hard, are a team player, show that you are reliable and always keep praticing your skills, you will be fine.

The main thing I am looking forward to in the Studio is practising new ideas and testing new products out. We will have an area set up to record out work and will be filming some You Tube tutorials on body painting techniques.

My friend Jason has set up a company called Designedego and he will be running a 5 Day Introductory Makeup Course for all those wanting to learn high level fashion makeup. Jason worked around the world for MAC Cosmetics for over 10 years as well working with the MAC Pro team at LFW. He is an amazing makeup artist and a great educator.

My brochures are now ready and we are posting them out to our many requests. Its been a mad week

Here's some of my work from last year for the Vintage Hair Lounge as a promo for the Goodwood Revival. Hair & Makeup by Gloria & Sharon Holloway (Vintage Hair Lounge)

JT Makeup Studio

For the last 6 months I have been planning to open my own Studio in Chiswick, West london and will be based in the Barley Mow centre just off Chiswick High Road. The location is the old Sanderson Wallpaper factory which was converted into design studios in the 1990's.

The studio will comprise of makeup workstations for up to 10 people, an office area with a set up for filming and an area for research. My aim of the studio is to offer a range of specialised training for body painting, airbrushing and Career Development workshops. I believe in well structured training and have adapted my body painting techniques that I have developed over 18 years into a series of classes. I will be retailing a selection of products to support the training, these are products I incorporate into my techniques.

The PPP Career Development classes are designed to help makeup artists market themselves and build in the business side into their work. The classes will begin in February and I will also be running body painting workshops at the PAM Makeup Studio. My website will be launched in early January which will give details of all the classes available.

Louise Young

Throughout the last two years I have been working with the Louise Young Cosmetics range building the brush range into my makeup kit. I really like the design of these brushes and enjoy working with them. Louise Young is a very well established makeup artist working in film, media, TV and fashion for the last 30 years. Productions Louise has worked on include "Stardust", "Clash of the Titans" and "Alfie". Louise also offers a range of You Tube tutorials and delivers her own courses in makeup. Louise has tried and tested many styles of brushes to define her final choices in her brush line. Her brushes are well established and favoured by many makeup artists working in fashion and film as well as being featured regularly in YouTube tutorials by PixiWoo and many other makeup artists tutorials. They are also available to buy from Louises website, PAM London and Selfridges.

I keep my own LY brush range in a small Harry brush wrap by the EMJ Company so that I keep these brushes separate from my regular brushes. This is so that I keep them together and won't mix them up with any body painting brushes.
In July I worked for Horse & Country TV for Sky TV working on the presenters covering the Equestrian events at the London Olympics. Louise sent her eyeshadow palettes for me to try out so I decided to use them on the main presenter Jenny Rudall who really liked the depth of colours and quick build up achieved. I used the natural palette as it offered the range of brown colours Jenny liked but I could also mix abit of the black eyeshadow into a soft eyeliner effect defining the upper and lower eye lines. The feedback I received from Jenny and the rest of the presenting team was positive. I found the colour range worked well for the production and looked fine on camera. The application offered a soft finished effect and the product blended really well on the eye area.
I liked the product so much that I when I was booked the following week to work as a daily on a film titled "The Double" I was able to use the LY Young Cosmetics neutral eyeshadow palette again on the artists I was working on. Again I was happy with the application as the colours gave a soft matt finish and worked well on camera.

In September I worked as a Makeup supervisor for the Vintage Hair Lounge at Goodwood Revival and Louise kindly donated her palettes for the team of 12 makeup artists to work with. The colour ranges from both palettes were suitable for 1940's and 1950's makeup applications due to their tone and matt finish. The makeup team enjoyed working with them and have now adapted these palettes into their working kits.

I would recommend any makeup artist to add the Louise Young Cosmetics brushes and eyeshadow palettes to their kits, they won't be disappointed.
